Training

Being a First Investors financial services representative is fulfilling and rewarding, but it is also a challenging vocation. That's why we consider proper training and education so essential to our representatives' success. At First Investors, your training comes in several stages.

The First Step

Immediately after you are appointed, you will begin studying to pass required industry examinations. The exams you will need to take are largely determined by the state in which you intend to work, but the exams will test you on your general knowledge of investment and insurance products, as well as industry laws and regulations.

Training, First Investors' Style

It takes more than just industry certification to become a First Investors financial services representative. Our way of doing business is unique, and you must understand our philosophy and products in order to provide our clients with the service that they deserve. Through our national training facility, the University of First Investors (UFI), we have developed our Representative Development Program, which includes proprietary training materials that help you understand these topics.

Hands-On

After you complete these initial stages of training, you will have the tools you need to go into the field. But since meeting with clients can be daunting, you will work with a member of the management team who will accompany you and give you advice on how to interact with clients and build your business. At any time, you can also call on the manager of your sales office and colleagues for advice and guidance.

Keeping Things Current

The financial services industry is constantly evolving, and our clients expect our financial services representatives to stay current on new developments. First Investors holds seminars and creates materials on an as-needed basis to help all our representatives grow and keep their skills up-to-date.

Advanced Training

As you progress in your career, you will eventually qualify for advanced sales training. This training is offered through UFI. UFI, located in our Edison, New Jersey, headquarters, is a dedicated facility that provides advanced training for our qualified, experienced representatives. Here you will attend a series of classes that will further improve your skills. Qualified representatives who choose to pursue the management path at First Investors will also be trained at UFI.
